happy new year, internet!
i've decided this is the year i will start sharing & cataloguing my creative journey more intentionally. while i share a lot of it on social media, it often gets lost in the fray w/o a lot of context, so i'll start utilizing my webpage more.

first thursday is back at the portland art museum which allowed me to see the 'africa fashion' exhibition! i've seen glimpses of it online & was excited to finally see it in person. it showcased over 50 contemporary african outfits. the colors, textures & craftsmanship were inspiring.
there was also a second exhibition ‘black artists of oregon’ which contains work by 67 artists from the pacific northwest. ranging from large paintings to photographs to sculptures, it showcases the black experience in the area dating as far back as the 1880s.

i picked up a new-to-me sewing machine today! someone in the neighborhood was downsizing & gave it away for free on buy nothing. they found it on the side of the road previously so it was also free to them. my brother helped me move it. i'm so grateful he lives close by & has a car. maybe one day i'll learn to drive. until then he's stuck being my go-to hauler. thanks, jake! ;)
say hello to the morse super dial made by toyota in the 50/60s! it's my... 5th (?) machine, but i swear it does something my other machines don't! the feed dogs go down so i can do free-form stitches. it needs a bit of tlc, but i think it'll be a great work horse.

the feed dogs have dropped and the free motion is flowing. this new way of sewing is definitely going to take some getting used to. a new era has begun--let chaos reign!
